Facebook is good for my business, bad for me.

I recently had lunch with my friend Miles. He mentioned he had a friend who might need some help with WordPress and Instagram.

I was torn.

On one hand, I know Instagram all too well. It’s a comfort zone for me. I enjoy having the knowledge required to help my clients post good content and grow their follower-base.

On the other hand…I hate Instagram and Facebook. I have enjoyed parts of having social media accounts over the years. I think the MySpace days were pretty healthy overall. Even early Facebook was revolutionary for our ability to connect with others online.

I don’t have to tell you things are different now. The Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok universes have been the venues for divisiveness and disenfranchisement for long enough to seriously poison our culture.

I started to write something about how it is never the tools which are problematic, it is the people behind them…

…I don’t believe this is true any longer.

The algorithms are the problem. They have exploited the loophole of human crisis in order to gain our attention. As someone who doesn’t have much attention to spare, I can’t afford to participate.

So what is the answer to this conundrum above? I plan to turn Facebook and Instagram back into tools. This blog is the proper place for memories and thoughts. Let’s squeeze the last little bits of juice from these dopamine-dripping anti-social media platforms to sell our products and services. That’s all they’re good for anymore.
